Award Winning Boerne Independent School District

Families move to Boerne for the small town feel, but they don’t sacrifice education standards. Education has always been important in Boerne, Texas. So, it is no surprise that voters passed a bond issue for $100 million to keep the Boerne Independent School District award winning.

Boerne’s new rapidly growing population forced the district to buy portable school buildings as a temporary solution to over-crowding. The $100 million bond levy made it possible to build a second high school and a fifth elementary school.

Samuel V. Champion High School, a $50 million building, is the first eco-friendly school in Texas. The older high school, Boerne High School, received $22 million in renovations. In the first five years students will have a choice of which school they prefer to attend.

New teachers and a huge growth in the student population have not caused the standards of education to decline. Boerne continues to maintain award winning status.

Two schools in the district the highest honor of National Blue Ribbon Schools. Fair Oaks Elementary Schools earned the honor in 2000 and Boerne Middle School South achieved this status in 2008.

In 2008 the district educated 6,200 students while maintaining a “Recognized” status by the Texas Education Agency. They have been “Recognized” 9 out of 10 years since 1999.

In the 2007-2008 school year the district had superior test scores in every area and for every sub-population of students as compared to state averages.

In 2009 a Texas A&M study ranked Boerne Independent School District was ranked 12th in the state for success in educating Latinos.

BISD received an unprecedented 38 Gold Performance Acknowledgements in 2008. The awards recognize high achievement on all areas of the TAKS test a well as College Board Advanced Placement results, SAT/ACT score averages, and other indicators of student achievement.

In the past six years BISD have won six state championships in soccer, softball, boys cross country, girls cross country, baseball, tennis doubles and track.

Boerne High School was named as one of the top 150 high schools in the nation in 2003 and participation rates and test scores have increased since then. Texas Education Agency gave BISD a superior rating in financial accountability every year since the rating was established. All voter referendums have passed since 1998.

The district has also been recognized for teaching excellence.
